Always good to see wines which have the benefit of a few years ageing by the winery before release (if you are wondering about this, consider that this Yarra Valley Shiraz, or Syrah in this case as they prefer to name it, has been given the same period of cellar ageing as the current release of Grange, which comes with a price tag 25 times that of this wine). Deep maroon/purple in colour, this is very much of the savoury style. Notes of cassis, leather, cloves, dark berries, animal skins, dry herbs and a hint of chocolate. A seamless, mid-weight wine with gentle acidity and very good length. The fruit continues for the full journey with good persistence.
