Weighing in from a Wheelchair: Nutrisystem Week 6

One of the first things someone usually asks me when I talk about my weight loss journey is, “How do you weigh yourself if you can’t stand to get on a scale?” It’s a really good question, because quite frankly, it was the biggest hurdle I needed to resolve before starting Nutrisystem as a #NSNation blogger. It’s kind of hard to track weight loss if you can’t weigh yourself, right? I mean, I could have based it off of inches lost, but seeing the number on a scale move lower and lower is so much better for staying motivated!

Instead of standing on the scale, I sit. The scale is placed on a wooden transfer table in my bathroom (which is actually an old end table, but the thing is crazy sturdy and works great for what I need). Ben helps me sit on the scale, and then I pick my feet up and cross my arms so I don’t hang on to anything, to try to get the most accurate reading as possible. We had to get a regular, non-digital scale to do this, but so far it seems to be working out.

So , this unfortunately marks the second week in a row that the scale just hasn’t freakin’ budged. I’ve (again) done a really crappy job of meeting my daily water intake goals and staying on track with eating NS foods – especially dinner. Now that I have the van, we’ve seemed to be constantly on-the-go and eating take out and quick meals a lot more than I’d like to admit to.

So this week, I’m setting a few goals for myself in order to help get back on track:

  1. Exceed water goals (64oz) each day
  2. Increase veggies with meals
  3. No fast food or takeout

Nutrisystem’s guidelines say that you should aim to lose 1-2 pounds per week, and I had been on the 2lb/week track for the entire first month, so I would like to lose 3lbs next week in order to get back to that. Plus, that would mean I’ve officially earned my first Nutribear, so I think it’s a good goal to try for.

What do you do to get back on track when the scale just doesn’t want to move?

  1. One thing that helps me when I am out and about and tempted to “pick up a quick” lunch, is packing something for lunch and having it ready for when I walk in the door. Then, there isn’t the delay to make something and there is a little guilt if I pick something up because then I am wasting what I had already waiting on me.
If I really have to eat on the run, then I try to pretend I am a child. I am usually full after kid sized portions but will overeat because the greasy goodness is just sitting there in front of me. Ain’t no shame in ordering a kids meal. Sometimes the toys are fun!
