How to Train your Crippled Driver, Part IV

The last time I talked about the process of modifying my van, I posted a photo of a white van that I was approved for.

I did not get that van.

Turns out, it’s helpful that, when putting in a battery-operated ramp system, one looks at a van with power sliding doors. Which the white one didn’t have.

Whoops.

Luckily, I was approved for another van in my first color choice, charcoal gray. Unfortunately, getting the power doors meant going up to the next level of extras, and ended up costing an extra $100 a month.

So, basically, I have a van and will be living off of ramen until it comes back from the modifications and I can use it to get a job. I guess it’s a small price to pay, in the grand scheme of things.

Ben and I dropped the van off last weekend so that it can be shipped out for the modification process. Which should be finished in another 6-8 weeks. After that and a few days of adjustments, I will be totally mobile again, (hopefully) before Thanksgiving.

It’s been such a long time coming. And I have to admit, I’ve already started making plans for Black Friday shopping.

  7. Where is your van getting modified? I know a friend who works for VMI in Phoenix and that is what they do, so was just wondering.
