One of the important things I learned at #BBCPhilly this year is to never miss an opportunity to talk to brands. This year, King’s Hawaiian was one of the big sponsors, so I made sure to say hello.
As I chatted with the reps, I found myself reminiscing outloud about the first time I’d had their bread, thanks to Aunt Rhonda’s Mississippi Sin Dip.
Since our families were eight hours away from each other, we lived for the moments when Rhonda was around. Because it usually meant we were drinking and eating and laughing from sun up to sun down. Every day felt like a holiday around her.
Mississippi Sin is my Father-in-Law’s favorite dip, mostly because of the bread Rhonda used. When Rhonda first made it for us, Kings Hawaiian wasn’t sold in any local stores, which made it feel like a special treat even more. Thankfully, it’s in a few of the bigger chain stores in the area, so I was able to make it for Ben’s Dad on Memorial Day.
That is, if the “kids” let Dad have any . . .
Also? Dalton makes weird faces in EVERY photo I take of him.
Ingredients
- 2 cups cheddar cheese
- 8 oz package cream cheese, softened
- ½ lb deli ham, chopped or cubed
- ½ cup chopped scallions
- 2 cups sour cream
- Dash of Worcestershire sauce
- 1 loaf Kings Hawaiian Round Bread for bread bowl; additional Kings Hawaiian bread for dipping.
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Beat cream cheese and sour cream until well blended. Mix in cheddar cheese, ham, scallions, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Cut a large hole in the center of the round bread. Use your hands to scoop out the inside of the bread, set aside for dipping. Score the top of the round bread for easy tearing.
- Pour dip mix into bread bowl. Wrap in foil and bake for 1 ½ hours.

That looks awesome! The little one room church I attended as a kid used Kings Hawaiian for communion. We (the kids) always fought over the leftovers… seems a little undignified now lol but it was REALLY good bread.
That looks delish! Growing up we used the bread bowls and put spinach dip inside of it! I’m def going to have to try this recipe tho… mouth watering (totally not appropriate at work! LOL)

That looks amazing! I LOVE King’s Hawaiian bread! The first time I had it was last summer because I had a ton of really good coupons. Now we buy it, coupon or no coupon! THE BEST!

That looks like a keeper. I haven’t really used Kings Hawaiin bread, ever. I see it in the store, but usually head for my favorite brand — so now I have a great reason to give it a try. Oh and I have seen coupons too for it lately …. for me and my budget, that makes it even better!

What would be good options for dipping into the dip? Pretzels? Crackers? If anyone can suggest something let me know.

We usually just buy an extra loaf of bread and rip/cut it into chunks. I think it would be good with anything though: pretzels, crackers, tortilla scoops, celery. I’d love to know what you try it with!
When I make this I use pumpernickle bread and hollow it out and use the pieces of bread-also Firtos scoops are good.. Another suggestion: Cabot seriuosly sharp cheddar cheese ( I like it better w/ this cheese then any other)
